Using the Sitemeter SEO Tool
Sitemeter is a real-time website tracking service. It offers both free and enhanced paid ($6.95/mo) services. It tells you who your visitors are, where they came from, how they found you and what pages they are most interested in.
When you sign up for an account, Sitemeter generates code that you can paste into each page you want to track. Once activated, it will track the number of visits, pages viewed and more details. The basic account will display the total number of visitors in the past week, the daily visitors and visitors in the past hour. It will also tell you the average number of visitors and how long they stayed. Likewise, it tells you the number of page views by total and average in the same time frames.
Detailed information is provided for the past 100 visitors in the basic account, 4000 with a premium paid account. It includes the visitor’s IP address, the visitor’s location by country, state and city, the language, operating system, browser, and monitor resolution. It reports on the time of the visit, the number of pages viewed, the last page viewed and the visit length. It also shows you the referring URL, the entry and exit pages. Sitemeter allows you to graphically view your visitors for the current day, the previous 7 days, 30 days or the previous 12 months.
The Premium Account offers all of the basic account features with the additional ability to offer an invisible site counter and track 4000 visitors rather than the 100 allowed with the free service. Unlike the free service, it also provides information on referral search words, the visitor path, ad free stats page, ranked reporting for referring pages and referring websites, the previous year’s records, and other features.
