Google Merges Trends And Insights For Search
This week, Google decided to merge “Google Trends” with “Google Insights for Search”, thus combining the functionality of its tool for checking trending topics with its tool for comparing search terms over time. They are both now housed under a single Google Trends product. Along with the merger, Google is also sprucing up Trends with a new look and, more importantly, it’s switching to HTML5-based graphs, charts and maps based on the Google Chart Tools. This move, says Google, will greatly enhance the Google Trends experience, particularly for mobile users.
The new Google Trends, the company says, will wrap both products “in a clean new interface to give you a clearer view of what’s on the world’s mind.” The new product includes features from Insights and Trends and, says Google, will make “it easier and more intuitive to dig into the data.”
Although Google Insights has been twilighted, they note there will be redirects in place to ensure that any URLs that currently point to charts within Insights for Search will still work.
