About the Search Engine Keyword Position Tool

Knowing the ranking position for keywords as they relate to a website can be a valuable metric for SEOs. By knowing the position your site ranks for a certain keyword or phrase, you can determine which keywords are paying off and which ones aren’t.

Developer Shed Network offers a free Search Engine Keyword Position Tool that can be downloaded and embedded within a website in which you can enter a URL and your keyword or phrase of interest. It displays the results from Google, Yahoo and MSN with a relative ranking for the keyword within the website.

When tested with several popular websites and primary keywords, the results consistently showed “not in the top 100” on each search engine. In one test, the Harley Davidson URL was entered along with the keyword “motorcycles”, for the same result. When that keyword was searched through the Google search engine, that URL was listed in the number two position. This seems to indicate that this particular tool isn’t functioning well.
