What is Included in Google Pack?
Google Pack is a package of software from Google available for Windows XP and Vista. It offers users the ability to install and maintain a selection of application programs that can be chosen by the user. If a product is already installed, the included Google Updater will determine if it’s the latest version and, if necessary, will automatically upgrade it.
Available software applications depend on the operating system, and language and locale selected. In the U.S., the Windows XP version allows the download of all Google Pack applications. The applications are all available free of charge to Google’s customers. Applications that may be selected include:
- Google Apps – email, calendar and document applications
- Google Desktop – personal search for email and files, gadget sidebar
- Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer
- Picasa – photo organizing and editing
- Google Photos Screensaver – displays photos from the PC and photo sharing sites
- Google Earth – “fly” around the world to explore, find maps and directions
- Google Chrome Web Browser
- Google Talk – send and receive files and voice messages via IM or free voice calls
- Mozilla Firefox Web Browser with Google Toolbar
- Adobe Reader 8 – view, print and search PDF files
- Skype – VoIP application to make free voice and video calls to other Skype users
- Real Player – plays media formats, organizes music and videos
- Spyware Doctor Starter Edition – detects and removes adware, spyware, trojans and keyloggers
- Norton Security Scan – detects and eliminates viruses, worms, Trojans and spyware
The Spyware Doctore and Norton Security Scan do not require subscription. Unlike Norton AntiVirus, however, Norton Security Scan does not provide continual virus protection. Similar to Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool, Norton Security Scan performs a scan to identify any viruses, spyware, worms or Trojans.
